Ghost Story of the Day

Ghosts and the Lady in White

I believe in ghosts even though I am Russian (Christian) Orthodox (I was born a Roman Catholic). However, I don’t think Orthodox Christians believe in such things such as ghosts, only in angels and demons.

Now let me tell you about my first encounter with a ghost. When I was 12 years old, my twin sister and I were staying with our father (my parents divorced in 1997; when I was eight) during two weeks of the summer. He went to Florida the second week and we had a Nanny to watch us for the week. Our apartment was very close to a large graveyard, which spooked me out a bit, since I never like graves and also have a fear that something will get me, and I only thought creepy things like that stay in cemeteries. Wrong!

One day I was getting some cookies from the cupboard. As soon I shut the doors, a young boy was standing there. He was about the age of eight with short black hair and black eyes. His skin was tan with scars on his face. I screamed! He blinked and he was gone. It was a ghost, because I was the ONLY one home during that time and the doors were locked.

One other creepy thing happened while I was there. I was sitting at the kitchen table by myself. I felt something touching my right leg like if someone was petting me. At first it was gentle and I was calm and didn’t move until I felt it stop. I jumped up and looked at my leg - it was red but no teeth marks. And there was no one under the table.
Luckily my father moved out of that house and now lives somewhere else.

When I was 13, my mom remarried. My mom, my twin, my older brother and I moved in with my mom’s new husband. I had been to my stepfather’s house before, everything felt ok, noting scary.

Before my stepfather got the house back in the early 90s, it was owned by an old man and his wife. The wife died from falling off the stairs going into the family room. The old man remarried and moved away.
For four years, I have seen this lady repeatedly going down the stairs and into the basement. She dressed in a white night gown and had white hair down to her shoulders. Her face was pale, with large eyes and a pointed nose.

No one except for my brother Tony has seen her. I believe it’s true. At first I was afraid, but now no longer. I call her “The Lady in White” (I know, pretty poor name, but that’s the first thing that came to mind). She sometimes bothers me while am on the computer and I tell her to go away, and she goes. She seems nice. But I do not what to get close to her.

At my job at Union County there’s a jail next door and a very old graveyard nearby (early 1700s to now). I see black shadows at work and even heard a child’s voice saying “Eww” once. There are no children in my office area.
