Anonymous French Quarter Ghost Story
I always used to laugh at ghost stories, and thought that they were all made up, or the product of over-active imaginations. Then I had some strange experiences at a friends apartment, and now I'm not so sure. The first time there were 4 or 5 of us sitting listening to music and talking in the living room of a 3rd floor French Quarter apartment. We all heard what sounded like footsteps coming up the stairwell and stopping at the top of the stairs right outside the door. Thinking it was someone coming up to see us, we would open the door and no one would be there. This happened on several occasions and we thought little of it. Then one time it happened again, only this time the door swung open with a crash! No one there. We got up and closed the door, feeling rather spooked. Nothing further happened that evening, and after some time we forgot about it. Then one night it happened again, only this time the door swung open and then closed immediately, and when we got up to investigate and found that the door was still latched and bolted! I don't know about the others, but my hair was standing on end this time. And then a few minutes later, I leaned back while sitting on the floor and it felt like I was putting my arms and back into a freezer! I guess that was enough for me, because I soon suggested that we go somewhere else for a while. I don't know if it was a ghost or not, but I no longer laugh at the stories.
