Diana of the Dunes

I have another story from the state park of Indiana , the Indiana Dunes. Many residents already know this story.

Around the turn of the century or so, there was a young mysterious lady who wandered the area called The Dunes by the shores of Lake Michigan. At the time, this was considered to be a resort area owned mostly by rich Chicago socialites. Every night, as the story goes, this dark-haired girl dressed in a see-thru white gown would walk out to the shores of the lake. She seemed to be looking or waiting for something or someone. There are as many tales about what she was doing out there as there are people in Chicago. No one really knows for sure. One night the girl disappeared. Rumors of a jealous and abusive husband hunting the girl down to murder her started to circulate, as well as rumors of suicide. The next morning or so the girl was found headless on the shores of Lake Michigan... or so some of the papers said. The girl was named Diana of the Dunes. Some people say that if you go out to the Dunes on a brightly lit night, you can still see Diana's ghost looking out at the lake... still waiting.
