Mobile's Hospital Ghosts
A few years ago, I worked as an engineer at a hospital in Mobile, Alabama. This was during a time that I was considering a job change. To me, hospitals are the ideal place for ghosts, yet I haven't heard of too many. At any rate, I was in the hallway of a unit during the second shift, around 8:30 PM or so. At this hour, the families and friends visiting the hospital usually have begun to thin out. I noticed an elderly couple walking toward me, but I didn't really give them too much notice because I was busy writing. The woman passed me by, but the man lingered. I looked up at him, and he smiled and said "You know son, I was a radar operator in the Navy in the War. We always used to make our plots in pencil in case something changed. That's why they make erasers. You know, life is written in pencil, too." Needless to say, I found this a little odd. I thought about the profoundness of this statement for just a split second, then looked up to say something to the old man. Both he and his wife had
vanished.
